Standards for Patrol/Tracking Certifying Official

  • Must be a member of FLECA in good standing.
  • A Certified FLECA Apprentice Trainer or a Certified FLECA Trainer.
  • Or, a minimum of 5 years handler experience. During this period, member must have successfully obtained a FLECA Patrol Certificate three times over a minimum of three years.
  • Or, a minimum of 6 years in training Police Service Dogs in relation to respective experience and have successfully trained a minimum of 30 canine teams.
  • All applicants must novice 2 certifications under the direction of 2 certifying officials.
  • Must be fair and honest to all participants and fluent in the standards of certifications.
  • Must uphold the standards and be available to testify to his/her personal observances of individual Police Canine Certifications.
  • If an official is inactive for a period of one year, then their Certifying Officials credentials may be terminated by the Standards and Training Committee upon approval by the Executive Board.
  • Grandfather Clause: FLECA will accept experienced judges, certifying officials, evaluators, etc. from other recognized organizations that meet FLECAs requirements as certifying officials. Applicant must submit supporting credentials for review and verification. All applicants must novice at least one certification under the direction of 2 certifying officials.
